Medical providers hear all sorts of amazing tales and explanations from patients. Some are just inventive - others stretch believability. And some are just stupid.

Please send your stories to me for inclusion here. And remember, for each story you earn one chance for the Cancun trip.

One of the funnier moments happened early in my occ health career. I was doing a follow-up evaluation of a patient that I was seeing for a work-related back strain. When I asked him to bend forward, he was able to get his fingertips to knee level. Since he had had past back surgery, I wanted to know if this was different from his baseline. I asked him if that was as for as he could normally go. He responded "No, I can usually go this far", and proceeded to touch his toes. Needless to say, I never saw that patient again. I thought to myself that if all malingerers were this easy to catch, then this occ health business will be pretty easy. Unfortunately most malingerers are much more sophisticated than this fellow.
